Art and Culture in Barcelona

From museums to exhibition centres and art galleries, Barcelona is a city buzzing with culture.

The city’s cultural wealth can be seen all around in its buildings, parks and open air sculptures as well as in the countless museum collections, exhibition centres and art galleries on offer.

And that’s not forgetting the big names like Picasso, Miró, Tàpies, and above all Gaudí, that make up the city’s cultural heritage. The architecture of Gaudí is famous the world over, thanks to works such as Park Güell, the Sagrada Familia, Casa Milà and Casa Batlló, which make Barcelona the capital of Modernism, attracting millions of visitors from all over the world to marvel at the beauty of its streets. As well as Gaudi’s works, Barcelona is home to other gems of Catalan Modernism such as Hospital de Sant Pau and Palau de la Música Catalana, by Lluís Domènech i Montaner, and Palau Macaya, one of many buildings designed by Josep Puig i Cadafalch.

Art, culture, science and entertainment are some of the attractions on offer in Barcelona’s museums: Egyptian mummies and contemporary art work, the city’s Roman origins and one of the greatest football and sports clubs in Europe, F.C. Barcelona.

Exhibition Centres
A look at today’s world through photography, informative interactive exhibitions, conceptual art and so on. The city’s tremendous artistic output is clearly visible in the many exhibition centres found all over Barcelona, where both new and classic artists are given space to satisfy the cultural curiosity of millions of tourists that visit year after year.

Art Galleries
is home to numerous art galleries of international renown. The galleries that make up the Guild of Catalan Art Galleries exhibit works by artists from all over the world and from all periods, making the city one of the top destinations for art lovers.
